Wye Valley Walks, join the walks in Herefordshire at Symonds Yat
Great for:
• Lovers of river walks and wildlife
• Those with buggies or limited mobility
The Wye Valley Walk follows the River Wye along a long distance national trail that starts within Mid-Wales and meets the River Severn in Chepstow, Monmouthshire.
Enjoy accessible routes that can be enjoyed by everyone with some suitable for those with limited mobility.
There are different routes starting from lots of locations in Herefordshire. Choose your route and enjoy the scenery from one of the longest rivers in the country.
Hergest Ridge, between Kington and Gladestry
Great for:
• Families or groups happy to do a bit of an ascent for great views
• Nature lovers (look out for wild ponies!)
A fantastic walk which offers views over the black mountains and into Wales. Join Offa’s Dyke path, one of the longest footpaths in the country, and meet the monkey puzzle trees along the way. The trees were planted by Dick Banks in the 1990s and are located on top of the hill where the views are simply spectacular.
The Ridge is still used for farming sheep but is safe for dogs, as long as they are kept on a lead, and you may even spot the wild ponies that have been roaming the ridge for centuries.

Queens Wood Country Park, between Leominster and Hereford
Great for:
• Little ones who’ll love the Gruffalo and Fox trail
• Spring walks to see the bluebells
A great day out in the fresh air that can be enjoyed by all ages with lots of interesting and fun trails to enjoy. There are various family friendly walking trails including the Gruffalo Trail and Fox Trail.
The park is the only designated Country Park in Herefordshire where you can enjoy the 47 acre tree collection that has over 1,200 rare and exotic trees.
It is great in all seasons with the gorgeous bluebells in spring. The change to autumn brings the beautiful autumnal colours that make it a very magical place to go and relish in the beauty of the great outdoors.
Bircher Common, near Leominster
Great for:
• Dog walkers
• Autumn walks to admire the leaves changing
The common is located just off the beautiful Croft Castle where you can enjoy the woods which then makes its way to the top of the common. Once you are at the top on the common you can appreciate the views over the Herefordshire hills.
Fantastic for dog walkers, as it has wide open spaces, for your dogs to enjoy a good run around. Located within the common along the edge, is a swing that is loved by children and adults alike. The change in colours during the autumn are stunning and makes the walk extra special at this time of year.
