Jane and Richard Lodge, who together with their family have been owners at Discover Parks, for over half a century and have personal experience with dementia, nominated Britains’ leading dementia research charity Alzheimer’s Research UK.
When Glenn and Hannah Jones celebrated 25 years at Pearl Lake, they pledged to support twelve charities throughout 2024, nominated by holiday home owners at Pearl Lake to mark the parks Silver Anniversary year.
The third nomination came from Jane and Richard Lodge, who together with their family have been owners on park for over half a century, even before Glenn and Hannah had arrived! They have personal experience with dementia and nominated Britains’ leading dementia research charity Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Dementia affects almost one million people in the UK alone. Tragically, not one of them will survive. Alzheimer’s Research UK exists to change that. The charity is striving for a cure by revolutionising the way dementia is treated, diagnosed, and prevented. With recent breakthroughs in the search for new treatments, there’s never been a more exciting time to support dementia research.
Glenn says, “It’s a cruel disease which affects a huge amount of people. Herefordshire’s Alzheimer Champion Sue Strachan is a good friend of ours and we’ve been amazed what she’s done over the years to raise funds for vital research. Richard & Jane Lodge have been coming to Pearl Lake for over fifty years and we’ve got to know their children and now grandchildren, so we’re happy to help raise funds to combat and find a cure for something which we both have a personal connection with.”
Penny Dyer-Griffiths, Regional Fundraising Officer at Alzheimer’s Research UK, says:
“We’re incredibly grateful to Discover Parks for the generous donation of £1,000 and to Jane and Richard for nominating Alzheimer’s Research UK. If nothing changes, one in two of us will be directly impacted by dementia, either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both. Alzheimer’s Research UK is working to change this, by spearheading the search for a cure. Thanks to organisations like Discover Parks, and all our supporters, we will end the fear, harm, and heartbreak of dementia.”
